My children (3 & 4) received the console at Christmas with a game and a single controller. This obviously tested their sharing skills to the maximum! I thought this would be an excellent toy for him because unlike a regular calculator where you type in each number then get an answer but can't see the whole problem at one time, this one displays it just as you would write it out. This is helpful for visually seeing all the parts of the problem and I think it reinforces math skills.

The down side is there are no "games" to this. it is just a calculator, but if you have a kid who likes to play with your calculator, this is a much better choice.

There are an add, subtract, Multiply and divide function. You can do decimal numbers too. There is no % or square root button. There is no back button. No other features that might come on a standard calculator, but most kids don't know what those things are anyway.

With the decimal numbers, this little gizmo will line them up just the way you would write them out, which is nice.

All in all, this isn't going to be the most fun toy - but I think this IS an ideal kid's calculator.

Bought this (along with a few others) for my son for a long cross country road trip. This, along with the others, were well worth the cost. He was engrossed for hours as the miles went by, and now that he is home he continues to play even when not in the car.

I played it a little bit on the parts when he got stuck for an answer, and I thought the controls for the game were a little hard, but then again I'm not the hand held game type of person. My son certainly wasn't complaining about that aspect and I don't know if that was more that the game is picky or if that was an Lmax issue. Probably it was just that I am not a great hand held game player.

This game seemed to have a lot of rounding and wanting to know which number was in the millionths place and so on. I thought there would be more multiplication and division, but I can only speak as to what I heard coming out of the game while my son was playing. I didn't actually play the whole thing myself. Certainly it is educational, so there is no issue there.

This is still the best talking globe out there. It is a great investment in your child's education, and it's an incredibly useful reference. It is a very well thought out design, with something to learn for various levels of geographical knowledge. I enjoy playing the Eureka mode, which is a game for finding places on the globe. I love that it gives you smart clues that help you when you're stumped, but doesn't just give the answer away. I love that you can switch it to continents, countries, or states and provinces (but of course as an American, what do I care about Canadian provinces, eh?? hehe). My son has had this toy now for 2yrs so ours has held up quite well!
