First of all, this is for the original Leapster or Leapster-2. Not for the L-Max. We got this as a gift from a relative, but our son had a L-max at the time. So we couldn't use it. A year later we got the Leapster 2 LeapFrog Leapster 2 Learning Game System - Green so we got the case out of storage and used it for the new Leapster 2. It offers great PROTECTION for the unit. Our 5yo can open and close it without any problems. It can store 4 games. Three in the bottom, and one left in the unit, which will fit nicely at the top of the case. You could put one or two cartridges more on top of the unit, but I don't recommend it. You could scracth the screen of the unit by doing so. So better don't do it. We feel 4 games in the case is enough for him to take with him where ever he goes. I usualy just let him take 2, sometimes 3 games with him. The rest we keep in a separate Zip-lock bag (for now). He has a total of 6 games now. At home he just keeps all the games in the Zip-lock, and only the one that he's playing with stays in the case. Works fine. We don't feel a for more storage. I also like the nice bright green color. Most of all, I like the PROTECTION it provides to the unit. GREAT PRODUCT! I bought this for my daughter ([...] at Target in pink -it's also available in brighter colors and in a Winnie the Pooh for $2-$3 more, pretty much the same type of thing, possibly different characters...I didn't check).

Someone reviewed that they got it for a 2 year old. The age range says, 3-6...I don't think a 2 year old could navigate this level. So do yourself a favor and don't buy for the pre-potty trained set. It's a preschool-level toy laptop and it requires some logic to operate, problem-solving of the most basic level. I don't say that in a nasty way, it is what it is. I can imagine how frustrating that would be, both for parent and child, to have a toy that they can't get the knack of.

My daughter is 4 and she loves it. She likes the games feature the most. I like that it was inexpensive and it looks like it's going to be able to withstand some abuse so I was totally all for it. She can play games on a real computer and this one is great because it's instant gratification. There's never going to be a virus or a loading time for this and it's something that's just for her to use.

So Sorry!!! But we bought all of the Zhu Zhu pets and everything that we could find to go with them and they are so cheap. None of the parts stay together long enough for the kids to play with them. American Innovative Teach Me Time Talking Alarm Clock and Nightlight Order Now

Just to clarify things a bit. The clock has three lights. Two of them are yellow LED lights in the "feet" of the clock and are always on. A third light (also a yellow one) is in the "body" of the clock and can be set to "off". As one poster mentioned, you can set this "nightlight" to off or on by adjusting the "OK to wake" time, but YOU CANNOT TURN OFF THE LED LIGHTS IN THE FEET!!! The feet lights are REALLY bright (about as bright as a standard wall nightlight) and cannot be turned off easily (but you can turn them off permanently as I will explain below.)

I went ahead and purchased this clock knowing it would be bright because another poster mentioned that you can turn off the LED feet lights by using a screwdriver and some electrical tape and 10 minutes. No, sorry. It is more like 30 minutes to an hour and two screwdrivers, a steady hand, and lots of patience! After much frustration and dropping of tiny screws onto the carpet, I managed to turn those LED suckers off and now it works great! I thought I would share with you my experience so that you will have an easier time of doing the job (and maybe it won't take you as long as it took me. :-))

You will need:
- 1 "small" phillips head screwdriver
- 1 "tiny" (like for computers or eyeglasses) phillips head screwdriver
- Black electrical tape
- 1 thumbtack or needle or something sharp

I recommend that you do not drink coffee before attempting this because you will need VERY steady hands. Also, use a large table without clutter so that you do not lose the screws. You can also use a towel to place the screws on so that they don't roll off the table. Prepare for this to take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your skill with a screwdriver and working with very tiny things.

1. Turn clock over.
2. Use "small" screwdriver to remove battery compartment screw and place aside.
3. Use "tiny" screwdriver to remove screws from bottom of feet and place aside.
4. Turn clock partially over again and find deep screw holes in the backs of the feet. Remove screws using the "small" screwdriver.
5. Pull white body of clock apart to expose circuit boards in feet.
6. Carefully remove two screws from one circuit board. (Do them one at a time so that you can compare how the first one is put back together by looking at the second one.)
7. Place a small black square of electrical tape over each LED on the front of the boards. (I used two layers to completely shade the light.) The two LED's are labeled in tiny letters and are located on each end of the circuit board.
8. Punch holes (using a thumbtack or needle) in the tape where the circuit board holes are (so that the board will fit back into place over the plastic protuberances that poke through it).
9. Once circuit boards are in place screw them back to the clock and repeat each step above in reverse order.

This toy was given to my son as a Christmas gift. He was only 4 months old so I didnt think he would be able to use it. He hated tummy time and would always cry so I pulled it out hoping the music would distract him. He stopped crying, lifted his head, started to hit at it and it began to spin and play the alphabet song. I tried putting other toys in front of him before so I was surprised it held his attention. He is 9 months now and still loves this toy. He will spin for 15 minutes or more.
PROS:

It is very light. I take it all over the house.
He recognizes the alphabet song. When I sing it he always smiles in recognition.
It is durable. It has been knocked over many times and doesn't seem to be a problem.
As much as he uses it I have never changed the batteries. I don't even know if it takes batteries.
It has 3 modes of music so when I get tired of hearing one I can flip to the others.
The music does not annoy me. And it has a two mode volume control.
CONS:
I wish it had a suction or was designed better so it wouldn't tip over so much.
Has a light on either side but they are very small and don't do anything to keep him entertained.

I avoided getting sucked into the Zhu Zhu Pet hoopla over the Christmas season but eventually caved. My children's cousins owned a couple of them and they were all having a blast watching this little hamster make squeaky noises and run around. A week or two later, we were at the mall and picked up the pink, "Jilly" hamster.

The way that the hamster senses that it's run into a wall and needs to back up reminds me of a Roomba. Smart little hamster! I've observed an almost 2 year old, 3, 4, and 5 year olds all having a great time. However, be aware that Cepia, the company that makes the Zhu Zhu Pet, recommends the toy for 4+ year olds. While researching for this review, I found out that the Zhu Zhu Pets were almost recalled for a high level of antimony, which is a dangerous metal. Though the Consumer Product Safety Commission deemed the toy safe, I would probably still keep the toy away from younger children who may put the toy in their mouths, just to be safe.

We had to return our Zhu Zhu Pet after just 2 weeks because it worked only intermittently. It would make a high pitched noise and would not move forward unless we gave it a little push. We just ordered a replacement online and hope that this one is a bit more durable.

Zhu Zhu Pets are definitely fun little toys. Though some kids may not be that entertained by it, I think a vast majority will.
